Important Union Recommendation: SGF/EMS Public Holiday Dispute

Yesterday (8 April 2008) the Union has learned of Australia Post management issuing a SGF Public Holiday/Overtime Survey form to all employees for completion, who are located at Sydney Gateway Facility, Express Mail Service and Sydney Parcel Facility.

Australia Post management made no mention of their intentions of surveying employees at SGF/EMS or SPF during the meeting held with your senior Union Officials involving the Branch Secretary on 1 April or during a meeting with local Union representatives (SGF/EMS AURs) on 3 April or in writing to the Union following these meetings or have the decency of indicating these intentions during AIRC proceedings.

The questions that are on the minds of many affected CEPU members are …..Why is Australia Post management engaging in such improper and inappropriate behavior? Could it be that they are purposely setting out to avoid or genuinely participate in a solution to resolve this Public Holiday Rostering Dispute that they are responsible for creating? Why would reasonable management not want a resolution to a dispute that accommodates the interests of management obtaining necessary resources (Labour) to meet operational requirements and at the same time satisfy CEPU members’ important work and family arrangements?

No more or less to what your present EBA6 provides a commitment for!

The Union views this action to be a reckless, arrogant and abusive act by management with undermining the conciliation processes currently before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission to resolve the present dispute in forcing 100% of shift workers to be rostered to work on each or every Public Holiday.

The Branch Secretary Jim Metcher has sought for management to withdraw these surveys forthwith and has objected strongly to the surveys being issued by management during proceedings held before the AIRC today. Failing Management withdrawing these surveys, all CEPU members are strongly urged to implement the following Union recommendation;

UNION RECOMMENDATION

“All CEPU MEMBERS ARE URGED TO FILE ALL MANAGEMENT SGF PUBLIC
HOLIDAY SURVEY FORMS DATED 8 APRIL 2008 IN THE BIN WHERE IT BELONGS”

The Public Holiday Rostering Dispute continues before the AIRC again at 9:30 am Monday 14 April 2008. All members will be informed of the resolution to this dispute or otherwise following these proceedings.

If members require information about the progress involving your Union Officials and AURs in resolving the SGF Public Holiday dispute then they should only speak directly with their local AURs or Branch Officials Gil Enzon, TK Ly or Nathan Metcher.
