If Foxtel didn’t realise they had a problem with installers before today then they do now!!! The sound of Foxtel installer vans and truck horns echoed around the Macquarie Park area for nearly an hour replicating the anger of the installers for being ignored.
Foxtel installers came out in force today holding a protest outside Foxtel’s Macquarie Park head office. Following a few sausage sandwiches and speeches by CEPU Assistant Secretary Shane Murphy and Unions NSW Secretary Mark Lennon the installers led a convoy of vans and trucks around the Foxtel precinct.
Workers from all around scurried out to see what the commotion was including some that actually joined in supporting installers.
The installers supported by representatives from various unions, Unions NSW and the ACTU made their presence felt as they lapped the Foxtel Head office. Other workers from companies around Foxtel yelled their support as passing traffic honked their horns in support.
Foxtel workers have vowed to continue their protests until Foxtel sit down and negotiate contracts that don’t fine them for being next to their 1 year old child in hospital.
Organiser Shane Murphy said that the contracts in their current form allow the company to just stop paying people and fine them if they are ill or they are forced to attend hospital with their children.
“These installers are not going away” Mr Murphy said
“Some of our members wanted to keep the convoy up all day.”
More protests are planned leading up to Christmas unless Foxtel comes to the table.
