Negotiations for finalising a new EBA8 progressed well into Wednesday evening this week involving your senior Union officials and Australia Post Management representatives, including CEO Ahmed Fahour.

Prior to the conclusion of Wednesday’s talks – Australia Post proposed an improved but final EBA8 offer which has resulted in the commitment by Post and the Unions working towards finalising the new EBA8 package.

Members need to note that any new EBA8 package is subject to consultation and a vote in support by the workforce.

Key features of Post’s EBA8 offer are:

  • A new back to back EBA8 continuing on from EBA7 commencing  from 1 August 2013 and expire 31 December 2016
  • Protection of all existing Award entitlements and the RRR Agreement and benefits
  • A 10.5% pay rate increase (nil cash bonuses) over the life of the EBA8 which includes  presently 3 x 3% instalments along with the 1.5% pay increase  already due  later in December 2013.

The pay increases are subject to Post returning a minium of $1 profit margin and mail/parcel service performance levels maintained at 94% and 96% respectively

The pay rate increase shall not flow onto ‘Final Average Salary’ (FAS) for superannuation salary purposes within the APSS Defined Benefit Plan for the life of EBA8.

  • Profit sharing where employees will benefit from Australia Post profits margins after tax using the 2012/2013 annual profit results as a benchmark.
  • Genuine consideration but no final commitment has been reached by Australia Post to increase all allowances at the same rate (10.5%) as the pay offer.
  • A renewed commitment between management, employees and the unions to be established around a number of key initiatives such as amongst other things – safety, employee respect and recognition and delivery modelling to maximise full time jobs. (more on these renewed commitments will follow)
  • A commitment to continue to progress non- financial claims and joining with Post to identify productivity improvements and innovations to benefit Post’s profitability, customer satisfaction and employee working conditions without a requirement to reach productivity benchmarks (further information will follow on these initiatives)

Further discussions are planned with Post next week for the purpose of finalising the EBA8 package.

Once the EBA8 package is finalised, members will be made aware of what the new EBA8 entails and importantly means for you and the overall workforce covered by the new Agreement

We still need to hear from you

As mentioned to members on numerus occasions – any new EBA8 is subject to endorsement by the workforce.
