Australia Post should reveal the full scope of its plans for reforming postal services to its workforce and the community, the postal workers union said today.

“It’s time for Australia Post to share its vision about the future of our mail services,” said CEPU NSW Postal and Telecommunications secretary Jim Metcher.

“Changing service models have widespread implications for staffing and work practices as well the customers and businesses that rely on postal services every day.

“Instead of fuelling anxiety and uncertainty, it’s time to come clean,” he said.

Mr Metcher called on Australia Post to explain:

  • how it plans to continue delivering mail services;
  • how any changes will contribute to efficiency;
  • how any reforms will impact on work practices and staffing;
  • whether it plans to close any post offices; and
  • how any changes will impact on individual and business customers.

“Australia Post can’t simply continue dropping thought bubbles without any accountability,” said Mr Metcher.

“Australia Post must reveal its plans and engage in full and meaningful consultation with its workforce and the community and business stakeholders who rely on our postal services.”
