Disappointing Australia Post profit results no excuse to throw the baby out with the bath water

Today’s Australia Post profit results are no reflection on the hard working staff of Australia Post, according to the Communications Electrical Plumbing Union.

“Australia Post workers are more focused and productive than ever,” said NSW Branch Secretary Jim Metcher.

“No one is more invested in the long-term financial viability of Australia Post than its thousands of hard working staff.

“Obviously we support any sensible reforms, but those changes need to be the product of wide and detailed consultations with all of the stakeholders.

“Today’s results, while disappointing shouldn’t be used to justify the massive, and potentially damaging changes that some have argued for without detailed consultation with all of the stakeholders.

“Australia Post needs to be upfront with its staff and customers about how these planned changes are going to effect their jobs and services.

“Today’s announcement has unleashed a huge cloud of uncertainty over the future of jobs and the delivery of existing services.

“The sooner Australia Post clarify their long term plans the better for staff and customers alike,” Mr Metcher said
