Union outraged as Penn receives 33% pay rise while Telstra jobs axed and profit down by 40%

The Union representing Telstra workers is outraged today after a remuneration report revealed that Andy Penn will be receiving a 33% pay rise, on the back of slashing 9,500 jobs and profit dropping by 40%.

CEPU Communications Union National President, Shane Murphy, said, “The Union is absolutely appalled by Andy Penn giving himself a 33% pay rise while under his watch, 9,500 jobs have been axed, the company is losing 40% in profit, and workers are being offered meagre pay rise of up to 1.8% or 2%.

“This is an absolute disgrace.

“Not to mention that customers across Australia continue to be let down as Telstra struggles to resource the network with fewer and fewer staff – all while Penn takes home $5 million dollars.

“Where is the sense in this? Telstra workers and customers deserve better.

“The Union will be campaigning against such an exorbitant increase at the next shareholder meeting in September.”
