In late June, your Union secured a range of job security measures for members following a significant public campaign against Australia Post and their plans to shed jobs from the workforce.

Part of that outcome included deferring bargaining for a new EBA until next year – avoiding the impacts of the Federal Government’s COVID-19 wage freeze on all new public sector EBAs. With that deferral, we secured an unconditional bonus payment for members – recognising the selfless hard work members, right across the entire business, have put in throughout the worst pandemic our world has witnessed in 100 years.

Your Union had been calling for this reward to be made right from the outset of it becoming apparent that Australia Post would be operating throughout the pandemic as an essential service – with steadfast advocacy for such a payment to be made unconditionally and not tied to productivity or profit outcomes and requirements.  Furthermore, for the first time, casuals and fixed-term employees will also receive this bonus.

I am pleased to advise you that all eligible employees and contractors will be receiving those bonus payments over the coming fortnight, beginning this week:

  • Australia Post Award/EBA employees 1% of 2019/20 income (minimum safety-net $100) 19 August
  • Australia Post casuals and fixed-term 1% of 2019/20 income (minimum safety-net $100) 19 August
  • StarTrack, Decipha, SecurePay and PoliPay salaried employees 1% of 2019/20 income (minimum safety-net $100) 19 August
  • Decipha and StarTrack Award/EBA employees 1% of 2019/20 income (minimum safety-net $100) 20 August
  • Contractors $250 Mastercard gift card redemption code week commencing 24 August

Eligible members will receive communication from Australia Post detailing the payment.

Once again, I’d like to congratulate you on an outstanding, disciplined campaign. It has been decades since the issues of our members dominated Federal Politics – and continues to do so with the Senate Inquiry in to the future of Australia Post’s service delivery still on foot and due to hand down its report on August 25.

Without your involvement and activism in involving your friends and family in our Postal Pandemic campaign, these outcomes would not have been possible.

Should you require any further information or assistance with your bonus payment, please contact Branch Assistant Secretary Peter Chaloner or Branch Officials Cade Anderson, Elly Huttly, Phil Kessey, TK Ly, Liam Murphy, Peter O’Connell, Dharmpal Singh or Dennis Williams on (02) 9893 7822.

Yours faithfully,

SHANE MURPHY
BRANCH SECRETARY
