According to press reports, Telstra may cut up to 100 staff from its technology services arm KAZ, a week after the major restructure of Telstra’s internet business led to the announcement of some 800 job losses.
The reports come despite earlier public statements by Telstra that the current restructuring of Kaz was not expected to lead to any redundancies.
Telstra appears to be pushing ahead with plans to integrate KAZ more tightly into the rest of its business, with parts of its Victorian and NSW operations being combined and key functions being transferred to the company’s enterprise and government sections.
The restructure was first flagged by Sol Trujillo in July, when he admitted that Telstra had failed to find buyers for the Kaz business, and it was confirmed at the company’s investor briefing in August.
The CEPU has made written representations to Kaz about the proposed job cuts. Any CEPU members who have been or believe they may be affected by the moves should contact the Union office on (02) 9893 7822.
