The CEPU has been alerted by the media to secret
talks held between Australia Post and some local
councils in Queensland regarding the introduction of
Community Mail Boxes in newly developed estates.
We’ve also received a slide pack outlining what was
being considered – which you can
download here.
While we
know the MD is committed to improving consultation,
it’s obvious some managers are more committed to
their old ways of side-stepping their legal
obligations to consult with employees and the union.
Australia Post’s move to hold discussions first with
outside groups about something that has a potential
to impact on jobs inside Post is a clear breach of
the existing legal agreements with you and your
Union.
We’ve written to Post expressing our opposition to
Post’s failure to undertake proper consultation.
The union stated that these actions act in stark
contrast to the terms set out by the Memorandum Of
Understanding as signed by the Managing Director and
the CEPU, where Post recognised that “effective and
timely consultation is critical to prevent
industrial issues arising.”
The Acting GM for MND Steve Ousley met with the
CEPU’s National President last week and assured the
union that the move has not been considered
nationally and that before anything serious is even
thought about, the union will be consulted.
